Rokk Skoool class syllabi:

Electric/Acoustic Guitar 101 (EAG 101):  12-week beginning instruction class for either electric or acoustic guitar.  Don't play in the quiet of a one-on-one private lesson.  Plug in at Rokk Skoool and ROKK OUT!!!  Starts with basics such as proper plectrum (pick) grip and progresses all the way up to chord chart reading.  Chords will be presented using the Rokk Skoool method which accelerates learning and facilitates fretboard recall.  Students will build a chord vocabulary and will be able to play complete songs using chord charts by course completion.  Students will only need to bring their guitars.  All cords and amplification will be provided through Rokk Skoool.
Prerequisite:  None
Cost - $25.00 per 40-minute weekly class (tuition due monthly)

Electric/Acoustic Guitar 201 (EAG 201):  12-week  intermediate instruciton class for either electric or acoustic guitar.  Picks up from concepts introduced in Electric/Acoustic Guitar 101.  Advanced rhythm studies will be presented.  Chord chart reading skills are honed.  In the final weeks of Electric/Acoustic Guitar 201, students will begin playing live with their teacher in an effort to prepare them for the Rokk Band class experience.  Students will only need to bring their guitars.  All cords and amplification will be provided through Rokk Skoool.
Prerequisite:  Electric/Acoustic Guitar 101
Cost - $25.00 per 40-minute weekly class (tuition due monthly)

Advanced Guitar (AGT):  12-week advanced instruction class for either electric or acoustic guitar.  Essentially, this is Electric/Acoustic Guitar 301.  Uses the same platform from which chords were learned in previous classes as a framework upon which students will begin to learn to play more sophisticated playing styles.  Fingerstyle playing is introduced.  Students will learn the proper use of a capo, an indipensible tool of the guitarist for playing full ringing chords anywhere on the fretboard.  Truly, a complete way for students to learn all that their instrument is capable of.  Students will only need to bring their guitars.  All cords and amplification will be provided through Rokk Skoool.
Prerequisite:  Electric/Acoustic Guitar 201
Cost - $25.00 per 40-minute weekly class (tuition due monthly)

Bass Guitar 101 (BG 101):  12-week beginning bass guitar instruction class for electric or acoustic bass.  Starts with basics such as proper fret hand and pick hand positioning and progresses all the way up to chord chart reading.  Students gain an introduction to playing both fingerstyle and with a pick.  Students will only need to bring their electric or acoustic bass.  All cords, amplification and effects will be provided through Rokk Skoool.  For students with acoustic basses not equipped with on-board electronics, microphones will be provided in order to amplify their instruments.
Prerequisite:  None
Cost - $25.00 per 40-minute weekly class (tuition due monthly)

Bass Guitar 201 (BG 201):  12-week intermediate bass guitar instruction class for electric or acoustic bass.  Continues where Bass Guitar 101 left off.  Introduces chording techniques using the same method as Rokk Skoool's guitar classes.  Students gain superior understanding of the fretboard and its' possibilities for bass guitar accompaniment.  The intricate ways in which bass guitar playing can meld into the rhythms provided by other instruments will be explored.  In the later weeks of this class, students will begin playing along to background rhythms in order to prepare them for the Rokk Band class experience.  Students will only need to bring their electric or acoustic bass.  All cords and amplification will be provided through Rokk Skoool.
Prerequisite:  Bass Guitar 101
Cost - $25.00 per 40-minute weekly class (tuition due monthly)

Drumset 101 (DRM 101):  12-week beginning drumset instruction class.  Using the Rokk Skoool method of drum instruction, students will begin by learning basic sticking techniques.  Sticking instruction will be conducted on snare drum only, at first.  In later weeks, elements of the rest of the drumset will be introduced one-by-one.  Students will be playing to a metronome click as early as the very first class.  All students are requested to utilize a metronome of their own at home during their off-campus practice time.  No single tool of the drummer can facilitate effective advancement on the instrument more than a metronome.  Students will only need to bring their favorite drumsticks (and maybe a few backups in case of breakage while rokking out).
Prerequisite:  None
Cost - $25.00 per 40-minute weekly class (tuition due monthly)

Drumset 201 (DRM 201):  12-week intermediate drumset instruction class.  Naturally builds from the foundation established in Drumset 101.  Students begin to play more complicated patterns while learning to become intuitively aware of the "pulse" of the music they play.  This is in an effort to develop a metronome "within their head" in order to permit them to gradually rely less on the actual metronome for their practice sessions and, ultimately, their live performances.  At the conclusion of Drumset 201, drummers are ready to become the rhythm core for their band in the Rokk Band class experience.  Students will only need to bring their favorite drumsticks (and maybe a few backups in case of breakage while rokking out).
Prerequisite:  Drumset 101
Cost - $25.00 per 40-minute weekly class (tuition due monthly)

Advanced Rhythm for Drumset (ARD):  This 12-week class is designed for drummers who have made it through DRM 101 and DRM 201 but want to hone their chops a little further before diving into the Rokk Band experience.  Lots of pressure always falls on the drummer in any band situation.  With that fact in mind, ARD focuses on getting students more comfortable with playing live.  Students will only need to bring their favorite drumsticks (and a few backups in case of breakage while rokking out).
Prerequisite:  Drumset 201
Cost - $25.00 per 40-minute weekly class (tuition due monthly)

Vocals (VOX):  12-week beginning to intermediate vocal instruction class.  Vocal training which emphasizes proper breathing principles and exercises, pitch correction and note matching.  Focuses on training singers for the live Rokk Band experience through the use of techniques designed to increase breath control and harness vocal power.  Students will sing in a live environment while becoming accustomed to the use of a microphone.
Prerequisite:  None
Cost - $25.00 per 40-minute weekly class (tuition due monthly)

Rokk Band (RBND):  12-week advanced music instruction class.  Students will be accepted into the Rokk Band class for any one of the following positions: Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Drums.  The ideal Rokk Band class will be comprised of a lead vocalist, an electric guitarist (w/ vocals, if possible), an acoustic guitarist (w/ vocals, if possible), a bass player (w/ vocals, if possible) and a drummer, however, quite a number of combinations of players can be put together to form a class.  As spaces fill up, your student will be placed into the next opening in a future Rokk Band class.  Band members will work on a repertoire of cover tunes of their choosing to be performed live on the Rokk Skoool stage during a Parent Night concert following the conclusion of the class.  This is an experience like no other.  Students will first begin by working together as a group to come up with a name for their band - image is everything, after all.  From there, they will learn advanced music theory - not in book form or on paper, but in actual practice as it is utilized in the real world of music.  Friendships will be made with like-minded individuals that may very well produce bands and groups that exist outside of Rokk Skoool.  Finally, students will have a chance to play an entire rock concert at full volume in front of throngs of their screaming and adoring fans.  Students may invite as many friends and family members as they would like to the performance.  The more full the Rokk Skoool venue becomes, the better the experience for everybody.
Prerequisite:  Electric/Acoustic Guitar 201, Bass Guitar 201, Drumset 201 or Vocals
Cost - $35.00 per 40-minute weekly class (tuition due monthly)

Music Composition (COMP):  12-week advanced music instruction class.  Essentially, this is "Rokk Band 201."  Gives newly-formed bands or individuals that have completed the Rokk Band experience the opportunity to take the next logical step in their musical development.  Bands will be put together either from individuals signing up for the class (in the same manner as bands are formed for the Rokk Band class) or they will be composed of entire bands returning for a second engagement after completing the Rokk Band experience.  Rather than have students study and interpret the recorded works of musicians that have come before, Music Comp is an opportunity for them to carve out a little piece of history of their own as they write, arrange and, ultimately, perform their own original works live.  All band members have a stake in the composition process and will be encouraged to come up with unique contributions for each song from their own instrument.  Bands will draw on what they have learned from previous classes as well as new concepts introduced here to write and become proficient in performing as many of their own compositions as they are able within a 12-week period.  The remainder of songs needed to fill up a 40-45 minute program will be culled from the archives of previous rock recordings.
Prerequisite:  Rokk Band
Cost - $35.00 per 40-minute weekly class (tuition due monthly)
